A She Shed?

As a family grows it is important that each member have their own private oasis, or get-a-way spot in the home. Children often have a playroom that grows with them or their personal bedrooms where they can express their creativity. Men have their legendary “Man Cave” where they can enjoy all their favorite pastimes. Where does mom go? Most places where she can relax are fair game to the rest of the family. Let’s face it; Until now, moms usually do not have a hide away space.
A “She Shed” is the answer to her prayers. This sweet retreat is usually detached from the house, and is found in a renovated tool or garden shed. Just like the “Man Cave”, this little bungalow of joy holds all of the hobbies and activities she loves to do. To give mom this space, you don’t necessarily need an old shed. With space on your lot, or a house plan that allows you to expand her oasis can be added. Incorporating all her beloved hobbies and decorating her space will be the fun part.. Typically, homes that have spacious outdoor living are great candidates for the “She Shed”.
The Chesterfield offers plenty of options for her “She Shed”. It can either be attached to the home, or detached. Converting an unused guest room, bonus room, or even an unfinished area will satisfy the “She Shed” need!

Mixed, Matched, Perfect

spacer

Solid neutrals mixed with patterned accents and shapely antique nightstands make the perfect case for how wonderful mixing and matching can be. Beige bedding and a neutral headboard are purchases you buy once and love forever, and they can easily be mixed with like-it-now accessories, accents, and colors.

What We Love: This bedroom captures global and glamorous in a real-life setting. Simple window treatments and gray walls mix with gold accents and international-inspired patterns for an overall look that’s stylish but laid-back.

Bedroom Editing

Hand-glazed woven raffia wallpaper wraps this bedroom in texture, while white wainscoting crisply contrasts the nubby texture of the upper walls. The wool blanket adds color, but the gray-based blue stripes almost read as neutrals.

What we love: A fearless sense of editing. Devoid of splashy colors and assumed staples, such as a bed skirt, this bedroom does minimalism in a soft, traditional way.

Pretty in Pink

spacer

Pink is the name of the game in this bedroom. The wall behind the bed is a metallic blush shade, while the other walls, headboard, and drapery panels bear only the slightest resemblance to pink. A lotus-pattern bedspread and limed oak desk bring structure to the airy space.

What we love: Shades of pink paired with polished accents carry a sophisticated, not saccharine, tone. Clean-lined furniture and graphic prints add substance to a sweet color scheme.

Natural Beauty

spacer

Decked out with natural textures and accented with splashes of bold, leafy green, this bedroom looks warm and inviting. The upholstered bed frame features a playful ikat pattern, which looks right on trend when paired with the statement-making sunburst mirror above.

What we love: The interplay of various woven textures gives this bedroom a rustic and refined character. Whether it’s the burlap curtains or the sisal area rug, every inch of the room is drenched with personality.

Kitchen Decorating Ideas

Archival Designs‘ Luxury Mansion House Plan Monclay.

With winter upon us, here are some ideas to freshen up your kitchen!

Cozy Up

Outfit your banquette or breakfast nook with an ensemble of pillows. These pretty additions will decorate the eating space when it’s not in use and provide an extra layer of comfort when you are gathered around the table.

Display Stylish Artwork

Even though a kitchen is called upon to be highly functional, that doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish. Display artwork like you would in aliving room or bedroom. Consider vintage food or grocer signs to add collected flair, or a pretty painting for a more elegant vibe.

All Lit Up

Adequate lighting is a must for the functional aspect of a kitchen, but fortunately, this important element can also be highly decorative. With so many styles available, you can make a truly unique statement with light fixtures. In this kitchen, a large oblong lantern fixture crowns the island, while a matching, smaller fixture hangs over the sink.

Update Your Chairs

Give old chairs a boost by re-covering the seats or adding new cushions. Choose a fabric that goes with other elements within the kitchen so your new addition blends seamlessly.

Get Creative with Paint

Kitchens typically don’t have a lot of wall space, thanks to cabinetry, backsplashes, windows, and doorways. Use limited wall space as a chance to display a color you might not otherwise choose for a large wall or whole room. Here, a sable brown colors the space above the windows, which grounds the light kitchen. Also, look to the “fifth wall” of a room — the ceiling — as a place to add color with paint.

Shelf Space

Activate the space in front of a window as bonus storage. Mount shelves in front of the window by either anchoring them to the wall or along the sides of upper cabinets. This handy solution can also block a not-so-great outside view while allowing light to come in from the window.

Kitchen Gallery

Make your kitchen feel more like a living space by incorporating nonkitchen items into your decor. Oversize decorative letters put a signature on this kitchen, as does a collection of personal objects. This display is in a niche out of the kitchen’s main work core to keep it out of the way of splatters and leave space for kitchen essentials to be stored where they are used most often. Look to the top of your cabinets as another place to insert style.

Ceiling Star

Upgrade an existing light fixture by crowning it with a ceiling medallion. These affordable pieces are available at home centers in a variety of styles and sizes. Plus, they can be painted and are easy to install.

Fireplace Fillers

Archival Designs’ LuxuryCastle Chateau Melliant Fireplace.

If you don’t use your fireplace for building cozy fires, or if you want to spruce up the space when it’s not in use, add a fun fireplace filler. Try these decorating ideas for fireplace displays.

Savvy Storage

Don’t let a nonworking fireplace become an unused area. A firebox is a small space that can be used for storage in a stylish way. Here, a simple wood box holding magazines fills the space, provides storage, and ties in the warm wood tone to the firebox. The rich finish of the wood floor is reflected in the same finish on the wooden box, which complements the natural brick on the hearth.

Plant and Grow

Place a large, leafy plant in front of your fireplace when it’s not in use to add a pop ofcolor to a dark firebox. The simple, chic white frame and mantel make the large black firebox stand out, but the green leaves and rattan basket add life to the area and prevent the firebox from overtaking the room.

Candlelit Elegance

Mimic the look of fire with a display of candles standing at attention in your firebox. Different height candlesticks inside the firebox give this dining room fireplace a different purpose. When choosing candleholders for a firebox, consider scale and the height of the fireplace to ensure your display looks balanced. Also, consider using battery operated candles for safety.

Light and Delicate

A birdcage is a unique filler that adds character to a simple fireplace. Its light and spindly frame brings a dainty, delicate look, which contrasts the solid, dignified mantel. The black firebox could stand out as a dark hole in the room, but the simple addition of a classic birdcage adds a lighter touch.

Translucent Color

Use fireplace fillers to complete a color scheme. This dining room boasts an aged, rustic palette of neutral colors, antique furniture, and worn materials. The tall fireplace is simple in color, but intricate in design. Round green and amber bottles inside the fireplace tie light tones together with the more natural, neutral tones of the room. The translucence of the bottles reflects the room’s natural light and adds subtle color to the room.

Framed Sculpture

A simple sculpture within a firebox adds a touch of personality to the design of a room. The dark backdrop of the firebox and the white surround perfectly frame a sculpture that complements the decor throughout the room. The light, neutral color palette could be interrupted by the black box, but a simple figure that follows the room’s color scheme prevents a break in the room.

White Spheres

Treat the firebox of a nonworking fireplace like you would any other display space. Consider using figurines and decorative orbs that fit with your room’s decor as fireplace fillers. A dark, black firebox interrupts the crisp whiteness of this living room and whitebrick fireplace. Rather than allow the gaping hole to stand out, an arrangement of white orbs guarded by two owl figurines adds lightness to the firebox to make its darkness less noticeable.

Fireplace Designs and Decorating Ideas

A fireplace is a natural focal point in any room. Add interest and warmth to your home with these fireplace face lifts.

If you want to see more Fireplaces, “like” this Archival Designs’ blog on Facebook, and I will continue with more next Thursday!

Stately Hearths

This living room is warm, comfortable, and sophisticated — perfect for relaxing or entertaining. The limestone fireplace is the focal point of the room, with the elevated stone hearth, and white wraparound mantel. A white mantel contrasts the stone surround, and corresponds with the pops of white throughout the room. Furnishings in grays and light taupes reflect the tones in the fireplace for an overall cohesive look.

Fireplace Wall

Paired with built-in storage units, this fireplace becomes a natural anchor point for the living room’s furniture arrangement, thanks to its substantial expanse. White sofas and chairs arranged in a U shape are positioned to have a view of the fireplace. The room’s light color palette keeps in step with the white finish of the built-ins and fireplace mantel. A black fireplace surround adds stark contrast, which is softened through repetition of the black lanterns on the shelves and dark furniture legs.

Try Tile

Branch out from brick and give tile a spin on your fireplace surround. Available in almost endless colors and styles, tile can bring a distinct look to a dull surround. Consult your local tile shop or masonry pro to determine what materials and application are best suited for your specific fireplace.

Mantel Magic

A simple fireplace makeover can begin with items you already have in your home. Shop your existing inventory of accessories and display a few on your mantel for a quick, no-cost refresh.

Varying Shades

Open floor plans are a staple of modern homes, but can sometimes limit the cozy factor. Rather than built into a room-length wall, this fireplace is stationed in the center of the room, creating a room divider that doesn’t completely cut off the two living spaces from one another. The thick pillar is made up of dark tone bricks in varying shades of gray. The firebox itself is basic with a simple black chain curtain and no frame. Varying gray tones add dimension to the fireplace. The dark color juxtaposes the light, cheery colors in the rest of the room, creating a thoroughly modern look.

Wooden Warmth

A wooden fireplace surround is unexpected in this white living room, but it adds a sense of warmth and a natural touch. The dark wood tone contrasts the white room, but gives off a calm, homey feel rather than a stark, modern look. The carvings on the sides of the fireplace and the mantel add detail and character. Dark artwork above the fireplace and black accessories on the mantel repeat the rich tone of the fireplace, creating a sense of rhythm in the living room.

Kitchen and Bath Inspired

Marble has long been a luxe material for kitchens and baths. This fireplace brings the material into the living room. Pairing the material with shades of gray used throughout the space exudes casual elegance.
