90m motor yacht PROJECT LIGHT by Nauta Yachts

I’ve shared luxury items with you such as swimming pools, airplanes, watches, and cars, to name a few. Today, let’s take a look at some luxury yachts.

The 90m motor yacht PROJECT LIGHT is the latest concept revealed by renowned Italian design studio Nauta Yachts. The main idea behind the PROJECT LIGHT 90M super yacht was to rethink the relationship between a superyacht and the environment around her.

Extraordinary outdoor spaces, breathtaking views from both inside and out, balance and cleanliness of lines, seamless inside/outside connection and harmony. The blending of these key elements makes for elegance and visual lightness: this is the essence of the Nauta luxury yacht PROJECT LIGHT, a project which gives body to the real lifestyle desires of VIP Owners.

With 1210 sq mt of open deck space and 960 sq mt of living spaces wrapped in 250 sq mt of glass, the mega yacht PROJECT LIGHT embodies a new concept in the super yacht world, one that brings the outdoors in.

First impressions count. The main deck has 285 sq mt of open space aft making for an impressive reception area that can also be used for lounging, sunbathing and al fresco dining by day or cocktails, dancing and moonlit dinners by night. The saloon on the main deck opens onto the outdoors through its transparent shell of glass: the space seems endless.

All five guest staterooms are on the main deck. Each cabin opens onto a permanent balcony so that guests can enjoy privacy, the yacht and its surroundings, all of which are key elements in the LIGHT philosophy.

From the aft main deck, twin staircases lead to the beach club on the lower deck. Here owners and guests can enjoy 70 sq mt of open teak deck then go into the impressive 170 sq mt enclosed Sea Lounge for a drink or snack. The Sea Lounge is also a true disco club with DJ professional consolle and cocktail bar.

Two convenient boarding lobbies are positioned amidships to port and starboard where guests and crew can board tenders without disturbing the bathing guests aft. Just forward of the beach club an enormous spa and wellness area has a hammam, gym and fitness centre, a mud treatment room, massage and relaxation area with Jacuzzi pool and a beauty parlour.

On the upper deck, which is mainly dedicated to the Owner, a partially shaded area has loungers and tables that can be left as are for light lunches or united to become a dining area for fourteen. This space flows into a saloon area with a bar and gambling tables.

Fully forward, there is the ample, full beam Owner’s Suite that has sweeping 270º forward looking views through no less than 27 sq mt. of glass. This stunning suite also has a private gym, a studio and a dressing room combined with en-suite bathroom facilities. The suite opens directly onto a private terrace from which five steps lead down to the Owner’s private sunning area with a flush-with-deck pool, sun beds and sofas. The Owner’s suite totalize 130 sq mt indoor and 120 sq mt outdoor spaces.

The pilothouse on the bridge deck guarantees that the Captain has the best visibility.

Aft on the bridge deck, panoramic outdoor and indoor lounges allow breathtaking views from on high over the seascape and offer more intimate spaces for meetings and conversation.

As the Nauta superyacht PROJECT LIGHT is a large yacht, a spiral staircase wraps around a glass-enclosed lift that links all decks. While this lift is for guest use only, there is another dedicated lift and stairway for crew positioned to port.

A huge 30 sq. mt professional galley is conveniently located on the lower deck, close to the cold rooms and food stores of the tank deck. Crew and Officers messes are also in the same area.

All paths of work on board and their ergonomics were carefully studied so that guests and crew have reciprocal privacy, with separate and independent areas that respect the differences in use that they will make of spaces aboard. Crew can do their various jobs without interfering with each other or with the guests. Serving crew has easy work paths to saloons and cabins, whereas elevator and corridors have been designed to allow trolleys to reach any guest area on the various decks, while, when boarding from tenders, the crew can use the efficient boarding lobby located on port side of the staircase trunk on the lower deck.

Superyacht PROJECT LIGHT Owner´s Cabin

Superyacht PROJECT LIGHT Owner´s Cabin

Large 9 mt. custom designed limo tenders are berthed on the main deck, or, in an alternative interior layout, positioned aft of the engine room on the lower deck and can be hauled and launched through symmetrical gull wing doors. In the alternative layout there is no spa area, but a comfortable gym has been planned between the two tender garages.

A huge double level air conditioned Engine Room, allowing also for an eventual Diesel Electric propulsion, host twin MTU  M71 engines and 3 x Lindenberg C18 Gensets.

PROJECT LIGHT is a yacht that meets and exceeds the expectations for beauty, comfort and efficiency of today’s superyacht owner not by imposing itself of the surrounding environment, but by immersing itself in it and enveloping owners and guests in the beauty and serenity that they have sought out.

Diving Into Balcony Pools

The 24-story high indoor pool on Geekologie , is not the only hotel in this gravity-defying trend. These “hanging” pools allow swimmers to soak in the world around them, and they’re particularly handy for architects that want to provide swim-friendly amenities for clients short on space — especially in big cities. Take a dip in the Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao’s swimming pool past the break , and see other amazing, floating pools that require an adventurous spirit. pool1.jpg

Sky-high, glass-bottomed pool

The Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao’s indoor swimming pool is perched atop the 24-story building. While that itself is not so unusual for a big city natatorium, the part of the pool that protrudes from the building and suspends swimmers in mid-air, is. Singapore firm Chan Sau Yan Associates constructed the glass-bottomed pool, which allows swimmers and pedestrians to gaze at each other. The view is incredible — if you don’t have a fear of heights.

pool2.jpg

Residential, cantilevered pool

This Spanish residence is made entirely of precast beams — it’s cantilevered lap pool that rests on top of the house, included. The elongated swimming pool was inspired by a Hemeroscopium, which defies physical limits. As the designers explain it:

“For the Greek, Hemeroscopium is the place where the sun sets. An allusion to a place that exists only in our mind, in our senses, that is ever-changing and mutable, but is nonetheless real. It is delimited by the references of the horizon, by the physical limits, defined by light, and it happens in time.”

pool3.jpg

Floating balcony pool

Mumbai’s twin residential towers, dubbed the Aquaria Grande, isn’t building its balconies so people can feel the wind through their hair on a warm summer night. The 37-story building will feature the outdoor patios so residents can practice their backstroke. The planned complex is currently undergoing construction, which includes these amazing, three-sided balcony pools.

pool4.jpg

Curvy, transparent pool

The InterContinental Dubai Festival City is home to a curvy, transparent pool that extends beyond the edge of the hotel, overlooking Dubai’s skyline — full of incredible, contemporary architecture. If you want to feel like a vacationing Spider-Man, this is definitely where you should book a room.

pool5.jpg

Rooftop, saltwater pool

Melbourne’s Adelphi hotel provides guests with a 9-story, 25-meter, heated, saltwater pool that allows swimmers to peer down at the street through the clear Perspex floor. It juts over Flinders Lane in the Australian city’s central business district.

Suspended, urban pool

The Hilton Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand has a pool that is dramatically suspended between two buildings. The heated, outdoor lap pool features an underwater viewing point for adventurous swimmers and spectators. It’s a lovely, aqua oasis in the midst of the city’s concrete jungle.

pool7.jpg

Hanging infinity pool

These stunning Indonesian infinity pools are located at the Ubud Hanging Gardens resort in Bali. The large-scale, multilevel, curvaceous pools mirror the surrounding hills, making it a peaceful, tropical retreat. Guests even have a scenic view of the ancient Pura Penataran Dalem Segara temple. There are 38 private pools in total, each one accessed via an aerial ropeway. It sounds a little frightening, but the panoramic, nature-filled view seems totally worth it.

hanging2.jpgpool8.jpg

Breezy, cantilevered pool

They say everything’s bigger in Texas, and this Dallas pool at the Joule Hotel is no different. It extends eight feet over the side of the building, on the tenth floor. A Plexiglas wall provides a killer view of the city. The hotel describes it as “breezy sophistication,” although we know a few fraidy cats who might disagree.

Suspended diving pool

Having a green roof wasn’t enough for these homeowners. They took swimming to the next level by adding a cantilevered pool with a walk-the-plank-style diving board. If you’re a wobbly sort, we suggest living vicariously through these daredevil occupants instead by looking at the nifty picture.

sky.jpg

Sky pool

DCPP Arquitectos designed the Sky Condo for a developer who hasn’t started constructing yet, but their plans for the 20-floor tower in Lima immediately caught our attention. The Mexico City-based firm wanted to create transparency between the interior and exterior, so an entire facade of the building is see-through. “We believe that an apartment shouldn’t lack exterior spaces; this is why our main space in each apartment is the exterior public area which contains the pool and a series of terraces that bring dynamism to the whole tower,” the architects indicate on their website.

sky2.jpgpool13.jpg

Death-defying pool

The Devil’s Pool in Victoria Falls — between Zambia and Zimbabwe — was created the old fashioned way: by Mother Nature. Hundreds of feet above the Zambezi River, this terrifying, naturally formed swimming pool creates a cringeworthy illusion. Swimmers appear as though they’ll be carried over the edge of the cliff by the current, but there’s a trick to the madness. Mirror writer Clive Andrews explained it in his 2003 account:

“I’m perched precariously on a slippery rock jutting out of the Zambezi. Just a few feet in front of me the mighty river cascades over the Victoria Falls, plunging 100 metres into the gorge below.

No matter how many times my guide, Vincent, insists that it’s safe to dive in, I just can’t see what’s going to stop me being swept over the edge and pureed on the jagged rocks at the bottom.

But it’s taken me nearly an hour of stumbling over boulders in temperatures of more than 40oC to get to Devil’s Pool and I’m not going to give in. So I grit my teeth and take the plunge — after Vincent jumps in first, of course.

The current takes hold immediately, carrying me towards the edge. But, before I can be dragged to a watery grave, I’m stopped by a natural rock wall just beneath the surface. As well as saving my life it allows me to peer over the edge and down into a deafening explosion of rainbow-coloured spray. A truly incredible sight.”

Samsung Galaxy S3 or iPhone 5?

Now we’re not suggesting one phone over another, but  I’ve noticed a lot of buzz trending on the battle between the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5.  These two tech smart devices can confuse any savvy shopper.  So let’s compare:

The iPhone 5 launched to mixed reviews – some were mad happy about the iPhone 5, and some others found it lackluster and pedestrian. The Samsung Galaxy S3 came out this summer and met with glowing reviews worldwide – its only real criticism was the cheap plastic back. So, which phone is the daddy at the moment? Let’s take a look at the specs and features to find the answer.

The iPhone 5 is a beautiful piece of work – it’s thin and made of glass and metal. The back of the iPhone 5 is in three columns, which makes it look intricate and delicate. It weighs just 112g, so is lighter than the 4S.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in six colour variants, and is curvy and chunky compared to the iPhone 5. It’s wider, fatter and heavier, at 133g. Design wise it is no contest, Apple takes the cake. Winner: iPhone 5

Apple has slightly redesigned the iPhone 5 display – it is now 4” with a 1,136x640p. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is also benefitting from a larger SuperAMOLED display – 4.8”. Both screens are HD and have 16:9 ratios, so size is the clincher in this case. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 also has an 8MP camera, as well as a burst mode, smile detection, blurring and contrast choices, blink detection. These add-ons are great, but they still don’t help it to catch up to the BSI sensor on the iPhone 5. It just can’t take low light photos as well as the iPhone 5, so the 5 wins this round. Winner: iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 has the latest Apple OS – iOS 6, as well as an updated App Store and better iCloud support. Siri has also had a revamp. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with Ice Cream Sandwich, but is waiting for Jelly Bean. The OS choice is tough. To sum up; if you’re after something that leaps out of the box and gets to work, go for iOS 6. If you prefer tinkering a bit to get your phone how you want – launchers, default apps and so on – then go for Android. Winner: It’s up to you!

The iPhone 5 has an A6 chip, which gives better and faster processing. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 1.4GHz Exynos quad-core chip, as well as 1GB of RAM. These two phones are almost on the same level, despite clock speeds and extra cores, if you look at the Geekbench test scores. There’s very little difference in ops too since both platforms work buttery smooth. Heavy multitasking, watching HD movies, and general UI performance when loading apps all show smooth performance. Winner: Draw.

The iPhone 5 battery is 1,440mAh, which gives you around eight hours to talk or 10 hours on Wi-Fi. The Samsung Galaxy S3 battery is bigger, and promises to give around twice the usage, but in real life it doesn’t. Tests with a looped video and WiFi on showed that both phones gave up at around 7.5 hours. Winner: Draw.

Both phones have 16, 32 and 64GB options, but the Samsung Galaxy S3 can be expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card. The winner is clear. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.

Connectivity: The Samsung Galaxy S3 uses a generic microUSB cable like most other smartphones on any platform. The iPhone 5 has a specific, proprietary new connector that only works with the iPhone 5 – it doesn’t work even with any other iOS 6 gadgets on the market at the moment. The iPhone 5 lacks NFC, wireless charging and MHL. So the S3 wins out in this respect. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3

Both of these phones are market leaders – they have drawn in four categories and scored three points each. As the phones are evenly matched with just the OS platform depending on your personal preference, your choice will be based on whether you like using iOS 6 or Android ICS.

The Art & Worth of the Residence | Another Dimension of Passion Investing?

In Alain de Bouton’s exceptional book, The Architecture Of Happiness, he argues that the idea of home relates to our own prized internal song. The concept of home, or residence, can be anywhere, but it must serve as a refuge “to shore up our states of mind,” and we need rooms “to align us to desirable versions of ourselves, and keep alive the evanescent sides of us.”

If this is indeed the case, the concept of residence has grown into a full-blown Wagnerian-like opera from a prized internal song. In a recent (August 31, 2012) article entitled, “Overpriced Real Estate? Well, Maybe It’s Art” James B. Stewart discusses the surge in New York real estate pricing where high-end luxury condos, apartments and wholly owned residences have been listed and often sold for multiple millions, the justification being that historically or artistically significant real estate could realistically be considered art.

Mr. Stewart provides both sides of this idea, as many high-end brokers think this is nonsense—they believe real estate is real estate—yet others believe, due to the unusual singularity of a residence often created by great architects and interior designers, that a property could indeed be considered art.

Adding fuel to this emergent UHNW trend are observations and facts quoted by Sophie Doran, in Luxury Society (September 3, 2012). In her well-documented article called, “Luxury Real Estate Prices Reach All Time Heights,” she writes, “Back in December 2011, an unfurnished duplex in London’s Bulgari Hotel and Residences was purchased privately for approximately £100 million, as a second penthouse unit in the development was listed at £69 million pounds.”

“More recently, records have been set in Hong Kong—where an apartment fetched $61 million—and Miami, where an island property overlooking the azure waters of Biscayne Bay sold for $47 million. In New York, a Manhattan penthouse was listed in late July with an asking price $100 million, following a slew of record-breaking trophy apartment sales in the city.” Ms. Doran continues to discuss the many extremely high-end residence sales in London, Dubai, and Hong Kong.

Top 12 Most Luxurious Custom Made Home Theaters

If you have always dreamed of a customized, ultra high-tech, inviting and luxurious home theater, here is a treat for your eyes. There is a fine line between home theater and design marvel. We have seen some truly incredible home theater setups in the past, and today we are here with a list of the 12 most luxurious home theaters. Watching movies takes on a whole new level in these luxurious home theaters. Let’s not waste any time and take a look at these magnificent and lavish home theater setups…

12) Pirate-themed Home Theater

Pirate Theatre

What happens when a hardcore Pirates of the Caribbean fan visits Disneyland? He goes home and builds a home theater just like a movie set from Pirates of the Caribbean. That is exactly what Paul Konold has done; he converted his home theater into an all new experience room. The home theater has its arched walls painted with murals from the Disney “Pirates” experience. The entire project is a DIY, with Paul spending about $30,000 to make it a resounding success.

11) Titanic home theater

Titanic Home Theatre

A Tennessee couple docked a Titanic replica in their high-end home theater. The 20-by-14-foot theater comes equipped with a custom-made 120-inch screen and Tru Audio surround-sound speakers entrenched in the room’s pillars and ceiling. The ceiling is actually a flamboyant dome that flaunts 1,230 fiber optic light strands to enrich you with a night-sky-like experience.

10) Indiana Jones-themed home theater

Indiana Jones Home Theatre

A small number of torches, an idol and a little technology helped turn this Indiana Jones-themed room into theater quality. Although the setup doesn’t tout very impressive AV gear, it does feature the Nazi-loving monkey from the original Raiders of the Lost Ark, a gold idol, a 1/2 scale ark from Raiders, and replicas from Last Crusade, such as the Grail, and a set including an Indy-ish jacket, hat, whip and torches. The A/V equipment includes Lutron’s Grafik Eye system for theater lighting. It has a big screen, NEC’s HT1000 projector and custom painting. Prop replicas from the Indiana Jones movies are there throughout this modded home theater.

9) Cyberdyne Cinema home theater

Cyberdyne Cinema

Here comes a Terminator-inspired home theater setup dubbed Cyberdyne Cinema. Darren Mortenson, the fellow behind the incredible theater setup, has designed it to look like a sci-fi set, which features variety of pieces from both sci-fi and horror film genres. Most of the equipment is placed on glass shelving within the recessed A/V shelving at the front of the theater, which gets obscured when the gargantuan 159-inch Da-Lite screen is activated. Other than the Terminator connection, the room also features a life-sized Darth Vader, letters from Viggo Mortensen (Aragon from the The Lord of the Rings trilogy), and other memorabilia.

8) Italian-styled Golden home theatre

Gold Theatre

This Italian-styled Golden home theater was commissioned by Kim Banducci and custom installed by Future Home of Los Angeles, California. Banducci, without any prior knowledge of interior designing, planned all of her home’s interiors from top to bottom. Attention has been given to every single detail of this elegant private screening room outside of Los Angeles. She reincarnated the memories of her Italian honeymoon, grand villas and duomos while designing the ceiling of bronze, brown, taupe and gold. The looks of the custom theater are so simplistic with its monochromatic color palette and minimalist add-ons. No word on how much money was put into the whole project, but the upshot is really a classic.

7) Star Trek Home Theater

Startrek Bridge Front

Fantastic details and designs! This anonymous owner seems to be one big sci-fi buff. The owners originally thought of having a traditional home theater, but when Jay Miller, president of Acoustic Innovations, noticed that their client was a collector of vintage video games, he came up with one neat idea. The upshot was a theater, bar and ready room, measuring a total of 70-by-22 feet. Jeff Hoover, dream maker and president of Audio Advisors, said that the sci-fi theater has motion-activated air-lock doors with series sound effects, and a Red Alert button on the Crestron TPMC-10 controller.

6) Batcave Theater

Batcave

This is for the Batman fans. The client in the case of the Batcave Home Theater was a retired naturalist. The Batcave theater features 8 motorized black leather recliner, Stewart Filmscreen 110″ Electriscreen, Sony G90 Projector, Pioneer DV79 DVD Player, Crestron STX-1700 Control System, Crestron STX-1700 Control System, and a horde of other high-tech equipment.

5) Nautilus home theater

Nautilus Home Theatre

The Nautilus home theater was created to bear a resemblance to the interior of the submarine of the same name from Jules Verne’s classic novel “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.” To avoid simply copying from the 1954 Disney adaptation, Dallas-based architect Michael Malone worked himself on Verne’s original vision of Victorian opulence. Working in tandem with custom integration specialist Audio by Design, the Nautilus Theater is fully automated using a custom AMX control system.

4) Five-in-One home theater

Five In One Theatre

This one is a state-of-the-art home theater built by builder Aaron Vitale of Vital Building & Enterprises in his own home. The striking feature is a 35-by-45-foot theater space that rocks a large 144-inch Draper screen that fetches video from a high-definition Sharp projector capable of 720p and 1080i resolution. Two Paradigm Signature S8 tower speakers and two Paradigm 15-inch subwoofers can be spotted behind the fabric grilles and to the sides of plasma screens. Interestingly, there is not a rack of power amplifiers, but just one B&K AVR507 S2 audio/video receiver that pumps out 150 watts per channel. The cost of all this flawless gadgetry is nearly $100,000.

3) Goldmund’s million-dollar high-tech home theater

Goldmund Sound System

A Goldmund home theater is not about gold and crystals, but craftsmanship. Their equipment shares simplistic European styling. Let’s take a look at what Mark Rosen’s ultra-luxe home theater is composed of. His luxe system includes a Mimesis 24 Universal Preamplifier, Eidos 36D Universal Player, four Telos 2500 Universal Mono Amplifier, Epilogue 1 Satellite Speaker Pair, Epilogue 2 Woofer Section Pair, Epilogue 1&2 Frame Assembly, Logos 1 Active Speaker Pair, Logos Foot Stand Pair, Goldmund Speaker Cable(x4), Goldmund Power Cords(x8), and Lineal Digital Audio Cable (x7). The total system cost arrives at a whopping $497,093. All of Goldmund’s ingeniously engineered audio components are made in Geneva labs.

2) In-house Cinema

34 Million In-House Cinema

The gaudy setup at a house in Austin, Texas, touts 24-karat gold gilding details, hand embroidered fabric seats and genuine antique candle holders. The magnificent CAT/MBX speaker system hides behind fabric grilles chosen to pass sound well and to complement the decor. They have used the Crestron touchscreen to bring down the lights and fire up the home theater system. The theater hosts an amazing set of 24 12-inch subwoofers. The main equipment cabinet is concealed behind a set of curtains in the back right corner and stores the brains of the home theater system – the multi-room audio system, and the home automation system-five racks of gear. The cost of all this unblemished gadgetry sits at a cool $3.4 million.

1) $6 Million Home Theater from Jeremy Kipnis

Jeremy Kipnis Home Theatre

The music engineer, producer, classical music lover and now the creator of a gigantic home theater system, Jeremy Kipnis sure knows his entertainment. His latest home entertainment offering is not only filthy posh, it’s actually quite a bargain for $6 million. The list of key components is so long that it gets hard to describe each and every one. In short, the Jeremy Kipnis’ home theater looks to be the Big Daddy of custom home theater setups.
